I’ll admit, I’m not one to imbibe much on alcoholic drinks. I do love the taste of wine and spirits but I’m pretty much a lightweight in this department. If I could drink, I’d probably go overboard with Champagne. Sadly, it tends to go straight to my head! Using it in a bourbon cocktail is probably even a more dangerous idea for me but for you, I thought I’d try it out. This old-fashioned Champagne cocktail turned out very nice and it’s great to sip on with appetizers or finger foods. Even if you’re not a die-hard bourbon lover, having it in a Champagne cocktail is a nice way to get acquainted with this spirit.
I love how easy this drink is to make. No special bar tools required! The bubbles do all the stirring for you. All you need is your favorite bourbon, some orange liquor, bitters, simple syrup, a cherry and an orange twist. Simple syrup is readily found in liquor shops but it’s very easy to make at home. First, combine 2 parts sugar to 1 part water in a pan. Bring to a boil, stir to dissolve and that’s it! Any leftover simple syrup is great for sweetening cold drinks or coffee and stores well in the refrigerator.
